Organization: the structure or arrangement of related or connected items; an efficient and orderly approach to tasks
Accessibility: the quality of being easy to obtain or use; the quality of being easily understood or appreciated
Organization for accessibility means to structure and arrange tasks and the environment in ways that are easy to use, easily understood, and easily appreciated!
Everyone enjoys being organized; decluttering their space and their mind so that they can process information more easily and get things done. For those with autism, organization is also important, and is often an area of strength. However, due to unique ways of processing the world, the systems of organizing our daily lives that neurotypical people use are not always accessible to autistic people.
That's where Spectrumize comes in.
The work done through Spectrumize is based off the most up-to-date research regarding autistic neurology, evidence-based practices for structuring learning environments, and first-hand knowledge from self-advocates and the autistic community.
We look at four key areas of assessment when organizing accessibility in the home: Executive Functioning, Sensory Processing, Cognitive Style, and Communication.
By assessing the individual's needs in these three areas, we can create lasting accessibility systems tuned into the autistic experience.
With Spectrumize services, my aim is to create a comfortable and supportive environment for the autistic individual and the entire family. Home is our port in the storm. With a home environment that is accessible to our individual needs and strengths, we are better able to reach our full potential and lead happy, safe, and fulfilling lives.
We start with a series of detailed assessments, to understand your home, family lifestyle, and individual needs and strengths of your child.
- Home and Family Routines & Adaptive Behavior
- Parental observation assessment for Sensory Processing, Executive Functioning, and more
- Structured Teaching environmetal assessment
During sessions together, we go over the assessments in more detail, discuss possibilities, and get a better idea of what kind of accessibility systems will work best for you and your family.
- Visual supports
- Environmental accommodations
- Collaborative and Proactive Solutions
- Assistive technology
If you choose the Accessibility Assesment & Report package, you will recieve an individualized report detailing recommendations for strategies to use in your home.
If you choose the Accessibility Suport - Home Implementation package, we will create a plan together of what specific systems to put in place in your home.
With the Home Implementation plan, we will decide on individualized accessibility systems for your home. Then, I will shop for materials and help you create those systems.
After creating the materials, I guide you through putting everything in place and introducing systems to your child. From the bottom up I will organize, visualize, and systemize the areas in your home where you need help the most.
After implementing the accessibility systems and showing you how to use them, I will offer follow-up support for any additional needs that may arise and check-in to see how things are working.
